The search for identity starts with the confrontation with one’s own culture, society and oneself. Argentinian street artist Franco Fasoli aka JAZ puts those processes of identity formation and the conflicts involved therein at the centre of his work. His signature style stems from the use of unconventional materials such as tar and petrol as well as elements of stage design that he has taken from his education and work at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires.  There, he started out on the local graffiti scene in the 1990s. Today, Fasoli primarily works on large scale murals. Again and again, themes of violence and duality including references to Latin American culture, subculture and political issues can be found in his work just as much as metaphorically hybridzed creatures of human and animal features.
