The LVR-Tower in Cologne-Deutz will be used to showcase poetry on a large scale. In September, poems arranged from newspaper cut-outs will cover its façade, just on a much bigger scale. The work shown will be the piece “Father is calling the Flies” which is taken from a compilation of poems published under the same name by Nobel Prize winning author Herta Müller. All works in this compilation were created using scissors, newspapers and magazines. Other works will be shown in the city during the festival on billboards thanks to Ströer SE. Born in Romania, the author is living in Berlin since 1987. Her body of work is strongly political. A very important subject has been the communist dictatorship in Romania that Herta Müller grew up in. As an adult she suffered from persecution, threats and questionings by the Romanian intelligence Securitate after refusing to work for them. Herta Müller will receive the Heinrich-Böll-Award in November 2015.

The poetry collages are made available by Carl Hanser Verlag
